“Batman has been shot?” Holy Holly Ashcroft, does this mean the future of Gotham City is in doubt? Will the jibing Joker and the pernicious Penguin reign supreme, start a civil partnership and set up house in the Wayne mansion?
No, sorry comic book fans, this is nothing to do with the caped crusader but refers to a comment made on a survey we ran a little while ago, when we asked over 1300 customers for their opinions of our old logo. We had a shed-load of responses and the information was very enlightening. This is what I’m talking about – someone said the logo suggested ‘Batman has been shot.’ (See below)
Quite a lot of people, it now seems, didn’t ever really get our old logo at all but – rather like the times when you break up with a boyfriend, only to find your friends never really liked him anyway but didn’t say anything to spare your feelings – no-one told us until we asked. So we asked you (be careful what you ask for ) and we got some interesting and amusing answers.
Here are my other top five favourite descriptions of what our old logo looked like…
1. A cat being circled by a fly
2. A cartoon space creature
3. A planet orbiting an orange molar
4. A halloween mask
5. A witch with a damaged hat
See what I mean? In fact, of the people who responded, only a small percentage mentioned gardening or mowing. Weird or what? Added to this, let’s be honest, style, content and usability have moved on massively since the site was launched in 1999 (still the oldest established powered garden machinery site on the net ) and everyone here at MowDirect Mansions thought it was time for a change.
So the powers that be, with the help of a large group of ‘boffins’, oodles of ‘clever design people that do stuff I can’t do ’ and some other ‘folk that help out when needed’ got together and gave the site a bit of a face-lift. Luckily they decided to go for more of a Hilary Clinton than a Mickey Rourke and we think the new site is looking refreshed and renewed but still recognisable as MowDirect. However, we want to know what you think of it.
Is it George Clooney or George and Mildred? Johnny Depp or Johnny Rotton? We’d love your opinion. From this, our new blog home MowTalk, to our superstore of useful knowledge, tips and advice at MowHow, to the new logo, style and interface, we have worked to make the site more user friendly, less cluttered, sharper and way more shiny.
To put my money’s worth in, I like it. I’m loving writing on the new platform and I like the new blog layout, and my fellow team members are certainly happy with it. Drew is very pleased now he has his name up in big letters. Not that he’s vain or anything…
Oh…and look, I’m aware this week’s Holly Blog has all been a bit serious. But change is a serious business. I’ll sort it out next time. Let us know what you think and we hope the refreshed website is to your liking. See ya! Holly.
