Cuts Well, Build Quality OK, Not Easiest to Drive
Review by Rik / (Posted on 26/06/2016)
This is a direct replacement for my JD LA 105 lawn tractor so I'm comparing to that.

The Lawnflite 380 is a budget machine but does what it says out of the box. You can tell the build quality isn't as robust but most likely good enough to cut my one acre lawn for years to come. Incidentally, the manual is not very clear, which is a minor problem because there are more switches etc than my JD. And those extra switches/levers are not entirely self explanatory.)

The lawn cut is very good with the floating deck riding over bumps better than my old JD. It has more safety features too. However, probably due to the fact it weighs less, the 380 doesn't feel very secure on slopes, even though they are lower than the recommended maximum in the manual. This also affects ease of driving. My JD had a simple right foot accelerator (like a car). Press to go, foot off to slow or stop. Simples! But the 380 sets the speed on the left hand lever and you brake with your left foot, none of which feels natural. It may be easier on the move - you don't need to hold or press anything to keep moving but equally it almost feels "like it's out of your control" . You can slow for corners with the brake or by the speed lever, it just doesn't feel natural. I am getting used to it though.

Take off is jerky, a bit all or nothing. The 380 isn't bad but if I had test-driven first, I might have gone for a different model/make.
