- Flimsy Leaf Collector.
Flimsy Leaf Collector. I have owned this sweeper for about 6 years, when it works it work well.
The main problem is the built quality of the leaf collector, flimsy would discribe it to a tee. The collector handle lasted about 10 goes before the bracket gave up, the fittings on the metal bar that keeps the collector rigid also fell apart within a year.
The wheels often seize and plough into the grass. Lots of ad-hoc repairs needed to keep it going.
But, as I said, when working, it's works well. A large amount of space is needed to stored the sweeper.
- 3 Years Later Still a Wonderful Machine.
3 Years Later Still a Wonderful Machine. After a lot of thought 3 years ago & studying the write up I decided to buy a Agri Fab sweeper, as I was having trouble with the grass being left on the land it was getting everywhere & looked messy. I could not have a grass collector on the ride on mower as I did not want to be mowing every few days, with the Agri Fab sweeper I can leave it 2 to 3 weeks & it picks the grass up pretty good.
Now as for build quality in 3 years the only thing that has not been perfect is the fasten for the tipper handle, looking at the new one I see they have altered it & that was a needed improvement.
I have made one for mine & that has cured the problem. The machine has not needed any other maintenance & is still as good now as it was on day one. Not good for your sales as another one will not be needed any time soon. Thanks.
- Poor Long Term...After a Great Start.
Poor Long Term...After a Great Start. Warning - after a few uses the wheel cogs stripped themselves out. We've had two now and it happened after about 6-10 uses. New wheels are not cheap. Bad design I would suggest....metal against plastic.
- It works !!!
It works !!! Easy assembly, easy operation but bag emptying handle should have telescopic adjustable extension to suit tractor size.
Good performance, good value for money .
Excellent So far so good. Only piece of self-assembly kit I've ever bought that doesn't require a spanner - remarkable design.
- No More Tears
No More Tears 25 mins to assemble. Does what it says, picks up brilliantly. I can pick up leaves AND conkers without any tears.
I recommend to all, though a little bit stronger on lower front panel wouldn't go amiss.
- Super Sweeper
Super Sweeper Works really well, clearing leaves and debris. Watch out for bolts with locking clips instead of nuts, I had one fall out on the first run. Replaced with nylon nut and bolt. Very easy to assemble but maybe bolts with locking clip are too vulnerable.
- Treat Yourself to One of These. They Really Are "Fab"!
Treat Yourself to One of These. They Really Are "Fab"! After much thought and research, I bought one of these last autumn, a bit late in the season. I was really pleasantly surprised at the build quality and quality of materials. I thought it would be pretty good, having seen videos of it in action, but had relatively low expectations for our garden - because I bought it so late, the leaves had already started to mulch down, and I thought it would not get most of them. Well blow me down, it worked a treat.
I have a large area, (about 5-6 acres of lawn), and it blasts through it. It is so good at picking up leaves that the hopper, which takes about 3 cubic metres of leaves, fills up a bit too quickly, and whereas I would usually rake an area and have a small fire, I can do the whole lot in a couple of hours and pile it all up.
I tow mine behind a commercial mower, on a simple tow hook, (no need for a PTO), and fine; it does not take much power to tow it. It has a versatile tow mount and can be set up to suit pretty much any ride on mower - all you need is a hook of some sort, and the mount on the AgriFab Sweeper copes fine.
One thing which has really surprised me pleasantly, is that because of the way it works, it leaves agreeable stripes on the grass and picks up the lawn clippings as well as leaves and twigs, etc. My mower leaves the clippings to mulch, so when I collect them with the AgriFab, it leaves a lovely finish, like a manicured lawn or a golf course.
The only thing I would change is the sweeping width - I cut 2.1 m and the AgriFab is the widest towed sweeper I could find, and it really needs to be 50cm or so wider, but for the money and versatility, plus quality of build I absolutely recommend this product, (which I too bought from MowDirect). Hope this helps you.
- Should be better
Should be better This is a decent bit of kit but there is not much evidence that the designer/manufacturer has tested it much. The build was OK, but in use the major issue for me is that bits of longer grass get wrapped around the axle near the bearings until the whole spinning brush assembly seizes solid and the wheels will not turn. You have to poke around in the guts of the machine to cut off the two balls of grass (one for each side) with a knife, and poke it loose. In doing so I often cut my hand on the various sharp parts that are in there. I guess in the longer term rust will develop where it gets scratched. In addition, the two bendy metal rods in the hopper are useless. They come off every time the load is dumped.
Having said that, when it is working OK, it is really good at collecting grass, and I cleared a good sized wild flower meadow with it.
- Bits keep falling off!
Bits keep falling off! This is a great bit of kit. Does exactly what it says on the tin.
However, the build quality is rubbish! I only use the sweeper occasionally (probably a dozen times in the 16 months I have owned it) but the sweeping mechanism fell to bits. The nylon bolts that hold the brush mechanism in place fell off, but these should lock themselves when assembled in the factory, so I'm not sure why they should fail in this way, except poor manufacturing quality standards. The result was a broken brush mechanism.
Also the clevis pins that hold the collection basket together keep falling off. The pins that hold them in place DO NOT WORK! One fell off and was lost. The other fell off in the garage but the pin was lost so I had to hold it in place with some wire.
But worst of all is AgriFab's Customer Support. MowDirect very kindly put my case to them but they refused to acknowledge that there was any issue and refused to replace the parts and I have now had to buy them to get the sweeper back up and running.
My advice would be not to buy one of these, but if you do (or have) then make sure it is checked regularly as the repairs will be expensive, and will be paid for out of your own pocket - you have been warned!
