- Good Product Once It Finally Starts
Good Product Once It Finally Starts A well priced product compared to other premium brands. Good quality, easy to put together, and easy to use, although not for prolonged periods. The long reach grip handle does feel a bit fragile though.
But...I've only used it twice, and both times it's proved extremely problematic to start. I've gone through the starting procedure by the book, even cleaned the spark plug on both occasions even though it's box fresh, but it's taken at least an hour of constant cord-pulling to fire it into life!
Once it finally starts, easy and effective to use.
- Buy Something Reliable Instead
Buy Something Reliable Instead I bought one of these from MowDirect in Summer 2014. Since then, it has been consistently unreliable.
First, the fuel line cracked, so it kept stopping. Having replaced this, it worked OK for a few months, but then became difficult to start. Furthermore, it now keeps cutting out for no obvious reason. My advice is: Pay a bit more and get a quality trimmer!
- Some Fuel Problems
Some Fuel Problems A good machine overall but with some fuel problems. At the start of the season new fresh petrol must be used and at the end it must be run dry.
The grommet for the two fuel lines does petrify and is not good for more than one year. Cost £6 to replace!
- Good value machine
Good value machine Like other reviewers I've used a number of Stihl machines but need to sit down after looking at the prices. The Mitox is a reasonably priced trimmer. Delivery was quick, easy to assemble and started on the third pull. Already done a number of jobs with it and no problems so far.
Blades are sharp and give a quality cut even on more woody material. Happy with purchase.
- Poorly Assembled Machine
Poorly Assembled Machine I've had this hedgecutter a while, after the first time of usage I needed a new lever as it had come off. Weeks later the whole machine needed a new lever and screws as they had broke off yet again. and it's currently getting fixed due to missing bolts.
- Good Value For Money
Good Value For Money I will only be using this machine a few times a year so I couldn't justify £5-700 for a Sthil. Delivery very quick and it arrived in perfect condition.
Only took a couple of minutes to assemble. The hedge cutter bar is quite heavy but this is because it is solidly made and when using the machine it is quite well balanced. It does take a bit of effort to use for lengthy periods but I can't see any alternative if you want a robust long-reach hedge trimmer. Starts easily, plenty of power and cuts very well. Engine not as noisy as I had expected. Tamed my rather wild hedges in no time.
Only criticism so far is that the plastic air filter cover is rather flimsy and I managed to break a bit off it on a twig. Other than that seems pretty sturdy.
For the money I would recommend it.
- Good Value.
Good Value. Most of my machinery is Stihl but, like a previous reviewer, I am shocked at their prices now. For the price of one Stihl I can buy 3 of these machines! In the twilight years of my gardening, I no longer want to be climbing ladders, so this machine is just the job.
I ordered it on a Sunday and it arrived 8.30am Tuesday morning. Very easy to assemble and started first time. A little heavier than I thought it would be but nicely balanced so you don't notice the weight when in use.
It cuts nicely and the angle adjustment is good. I would recommend this machine to any one.
- Good Product Overall
Good Product Overall I bought this in August. Setting up was not particularly difficult and the machine started easily. It has been used intensively since then to cut an extensive laurel hedge - around 200yds long, and high and wide in places. This was a major task.
As other reviewers have noted, it is a bit heavy and can get quite hot and the strap is, I find, not much use. Never mind. In past years I hired a 'branded', (e.g. Stihl) long reach hedge cutter at £50 or so for a weekend. The Mitox has performed just as well.
Only concern, thinking ahead, is that the lock for the cutting head will, when it is a little more worn, foul the support bar and won't be usable. For this reason, I am giving only four stars for build quality, even though the problem is unlikely to arise for a while.
- Why didn't I buy one earlier
Why didn't I buy one earlier Looked at a number of similar items from big superstores but there were many supply problems. Really pleased I bought this trimmer from Mowdirect. It arrived promptly and was easy to put together. It started on the 5th pull and has fired up since then on first pull from cold and hot. Its early days yet but it looks promising. Item comes with a useful harness. It has saved me hours of climbing steps and balancing near the blades on a normal trimmer. It is good to not be near the blades, apart from the safety issues you avoid the dust and insects flying out of the hedge. The blades are easily adjusted for a range of heights and angles but the handle does NOT reduce in length.
One word of warning (probably my fault!) do not hold the machine out in front of you with the rear of the engine pointing at your waist. The exhaust exits here and is very hot. I managed to melt my trousers without realising!! Overall I am very happy with the purchase. The job of hedge trimming is so much easier now and not the dangerous chore it was.
- Pleased so far
Pleased so far Excellent service from MowDirect - good communication with updates of dispatch. The trimmer arrived in good condition and we tried it out immediately. The 'long reach' is not quite as long as we had expected.
It appears to be well built and worked at first try. Can not comment on long term performance and durability as only time will tell. We were encouraged to see that individual parts are available so that it can be mended if necessary rather than throw away and replace. The picture does not show that it comes with a harness.
