Allen Power Equipment split sees hovers go to Hayter

Monday, February 05 2007 12:46:18 by Editor

Hayter Garden machinery manufacturers Allen Power Equipment has sold its hover lawn mower range to rivals Hayter, according to reports on servicedealer.com.

This marks the official collapse of the Allen company just a few short weeks after it launched its latest generation of the hover mower, the XR44, powered by a completely new Honda 57cc four-stroke engine.

Sadly, the family-run, Lancashire-based Allen Power Equipment fell into administration and was forced to end its 138-year stint in the gardening industry.

Knock-on effects are being felt across the world, with Italian manufacturer IBEA being forced to appoint Henton & Chattell as it's new UK distributor. Nottingham-based Henton & Chattell will start distributing the 2007 IBEA range when it arrives in the UK later this month.

Hayter will be known to most gardeners as the lawn mower manufacturer who first used the rotary blade in its motors across its whole range.

Its customers appear to be loyal, with over 80 per cent of them choosing to upgrade their mowers with contemporary models from the Hayter range, rather than choosing a competitor.
