John Deere Landscapes, which produces garden machinery and design tools, is to welcome fertilisers, seeds and chemicals for lawn and golf course maintenance from US firm Lesco as part of its takeover bid.
Nate Jones, president of John Deere's commercial and consumer division, told the Associated Press that the buyout was consistent with the company's "strong commitment to serve professional landscaping and golf course customers".
"We seek business opportunities that bring new customers to John Deere and that offer new products and services to our existing customers," he added.
Jeffrey Rutherford, Lesco's president and chief executive officer, stated that customers of both Lesco and John Deere benefit because of this decision.
"Lesco, a strong leader in its segment of the market, now joins with John Deere to provide a more complete set of products and services," added Mr Rutherford.
John Deere currently enjoys success in the UK with its range of tractors and trailers with the Rolly pedal-powered toy range being particularly popular as it's designed for the smallest gardener in the household.
