Gardens affected by year-round mowing

Warmer temperatures and heavy rainfall have led to lawns growing at a terrific rate during the winter months, meaning that mowing the lawn is now no longer reserved for the summer months.
Regular mowing during the winter months can damage the turf however, particularly if the ground is overly-soft or frozen under the surface, so lawn experts recommend that gardeners only mow their lawn when the weather has been dry and relatively warm for a few days.
In addition, it is recommended for gardeners to leave grass cuttings on the soil to allow them to decompose naturally and push the nutrients back into the soil. Also, leaves raked off the lawn should be left in a composting pile, rather than being burnt.
This advice follows the news that Natural Environment Research Council (Nerc) has announced that 35% of homeowners reported that they had mowed their lawn over the winter months, clearly demonstrating the effects of climate change on British gardens.
Dr Tim Sparks of Nerc commented earlier in the month: "Traditionally, people would have started cutting grass in March and finished in October but it has definitely changed remarkably now. If a third of the population is cutting grass in the winter months, that's a huge change."
For year-round mowing MowDIRECT offers environmentally friendly Enviromower as well as zero emission traditional hand mowers and specially designed low emission petrol lawn mowers for larger lawns.
Plus! Mulching offers a new approach to lawn care by allowing you to return grass clippings to your lawn to decompose out of sight click here for more details!
