Echo releases top gardening tips for March

Echo Power Tools, one of the leading manufacturers in Britain for garden equipment, has released its top tips for getting your garden ready for the spring.
For lawns, now is the time to dig out the scarifier from the garden shed (or invest in a new one if its looking a little worn out) to lift off the moss and thatch which has developed across the grass in the winter months.
Leaves, branches and other debris should also be raked off the lawn now in order to give the grass a chance to grow back greener and healthier in the coming months, according to Echo's experts.
Finally, Echo recommends that a top dress with loam and salt-free sand be added and brushed into soil-less compost to level out any hollows or dips in your lawn. Echo also advises gardeners to mow a little higher than normal to allow for better growth prior to the summer months.
March is also the time for hacking back the hedges with Cornus Stolonifera, Forsythia, Fuchsia Magellanica, Hypericum Forestii and Perovskia Atriplicifolia all needing a good cutting back, while a lighter trim can be reserved for Atriplex Halimus, Lavender, Prunus Laurocerasus, Firethorn and Viburnum linus.
Now is also the ideal time to plant in any new shrubs or hedges as the likelihood of a heavy frost has now passed.
