Husqvarna presents a beginners' guide to mulching

Monday, March 05 2007 11:05:22 by Editor

Husqvarna why garden equipment manufacturer Husqvarna has produced a new lawncare booklet.

Lawn Care teaches the new gardener everything they need to know in order to keep their lawn and surrounding garden in tip top condition, including an introductory chapter on mulching.

Mulching is the name given to the practice where the grass and leaves, when they have been lifted and cut the first time by the mower, are thrown up into the cutting deck and then fall down onto the blades again and are cut a second time.

The leaf waste is cut into tiny pieces and redistributed onto the grass, providing up to 50 per cent of the nutrients required for a healthy, green lawn.

As well as providing lawn-food, mulching increases moisture retention in summer, provides a reduced run-off in winter; protects the lawn from temperature fluctuations, suppresses weeds; encourages beneficial soil organisms and acts as a pest deterrent.

The BioClip from Husqvarna is a lawnmower with a built in mulcher, negating the need to collect up the leaves and begin the process by hand.

First, the grass is cut by the blade tips and then lifted into the cutting deck by the stream of air created by the design of the cutting deck and blades. The grass then falls further along the blades and is cut again before allowing the finely chopped grass cuttings to fall on the lawn as fertiliser.

MowDIRECT supplies a range of high quality mulching products for maintaining your lawn, including Toro Mulching Lawnmowers, Masport Mulching Lawnmowers, Mountfield Combi Mulching Mowers and the Simplicity Regent Mulching Lawn Tractor.
