Gardening enthusiasts are being encouraged to further safeguard their often valuable tools from garden thieves.
With British summertime set to start this weekend, property owners can often be more prone to leaving their gardening equipment, such as lawn mowers, leaf vacuums, hedge trimmers and other garden machines out, leaving them open to attack from garden thieves.
Research carried out by Halifax Home Insurance shows that last year, claims on garden equipment tripled between March and August, with the average claim costing £400.
Such thefts have been experienced by gardening fans in the North Cotswolds in recent times, with police warning that thieves are liable to strike when people let down their guards with the onset of warmer weather.
According to acting sergeant Mark Gosland, sheds are areas targeted by thieves as they often are not well secured.
"Shed owners should make them more secure by investing in metal grilles for windows, reinforced hinges and strong locks and shed alarms," he said.
