Hitachi to take over Tanaka

Struggling Japanese garden machinery manufacturer Tanaka can breathe a sigh of relief this week after it was announced that the take over process from power tool firm Hitachi was now underway.
Speculation about the continuation of Tanaka was rife in the last few weeks, but it now appears that Hitachi are looking to provide a form of stability for the popular manufacturer, who produce all manner of garden tools from hedgetrimmers to chainsaws.
Speaking to Service Dealer Magazine, Paul Butterly, managing director of Tanaka's UK distributor, FGM Claymore confirmed the news, saying, "I am pleased to be able tell dealers that a proposed acquisition of Tanaka by Hitachi is currently underway."
Known in the UK primarily for dominating the sound system market, Hitachi has a proud history in the power tools industry, particularly in its native nation of Japan.
Analysts speculate that this takeover may see the start of Hitachi introducing its lesser known areas, including that of garden machinery, into the UK market soon.
