New fuel discussed for lawnmowers

American researchers believe that they may have discovered a new, environmentally-friendly fuel for petrol-run lawnmowers and other garden machinery.
By pouring water on special pellets made from aluminium and gallium, scientists have managed to produce hydrogen which is now being used as a form of green energy since it only emits water when it is burned.
Its pellet format would also prevent any wasting of potential energy, since it would be easier to burn small amounts for equipment that required less energy to run.
The Purdue scientists, from Purdue University, Indiana, think the system could be used for smaller engines like lawn mowers and chain saws, with Jay Gore, an engineering professor and interim director of the Energy Centre at Purdue's Discovery Park confirming to Reuters that "it is one of the more feasible ideas out there".
In addition, once the technology has been fully developed, Jerry Woodall, an engineering professor from the university believes that it could even rival petrol prices, adding: "Our method would compete with gasoline at $3 (£1.50) per gallon even if aluminium costs more than a dollar per pound."
