Allotment security improved thanks to tagged tools

Other Garden Machinery Gardeners of the Salisbury Allotments Association can rest easier at night knowing that their hedgetrimmers, shears, lawnmowers and trowels are all safer from would-be burglars, thanks to a new tagging initiative.

Local police officers visited allotments in the region to help the gardeners to security tag their equipment in an effort to deter thieves from their sheds.

The move was welcomed by the Salisbury Allotments Association which prides itself on placing allotment security at the top of its agenda, reports This is Wiltshire.

An Allotment Watch Scheme has also been set up by the organisation, with the help of Crime Prevention officer, Claire Rooney, who assisted in the production and distribution of signs for all the city's allotment sites.

The cost of the scheme has been paid for by the local police and organisers hope that this security tagging initiative will soon take flight across the rest of the country.
