Mowers put to the test
Mowdirect news > Toro

Lawn mowers from Toro, Bosch, JCB and Enviromower were all put to the test recently when they were trialled by Times writer Stephen Anderton.
Enviromower's Eco 500 scored highly on the green front as one would expect, but it was also declared the best mower for dry regions where gardeners aren't continuously "fighting with long wet grass".
Easy to manoeuvre, the Eco 500 was described as "effortless", provided that the grass wasn't too wet. It has 80 minutes battery time but as it retails at £269, it is the most expensive of those tested.
For £70 less, environmentally-conscious gardeners could try the Toro Eurocycler. This mower was also easy to move around while its clever storage capabilities meant it was also easy to squeeze into a small shed.
Described by Mr Anderton as being a "sturdy, well-designed machine" the Toro Eurocycler comes equipped with a grass-recycling function as well as an optional roller to provide a striped effect.
JCB's EM1740 RF was easily the cheapest mower at £89.99, but the lower level of quality showed the mower up. Mr Anderton was particularly irritated by the "infuriating design flaws", which included an extremely small cable.
Bosch's Rotak 43 however scored extremely highly, doing well in both wet and dry conditions and at £170 a go, it wasn't overly expensive.
It also won points for manoeuvrability, storage and the ease with which one can remove the grass box. Its strong, powerful motor finally made the reviewer's mind up and Mr Anderton declared the Bosch Rotak 43 the best mower overall.
