Mow-off reveals best ride on mowers for 2007

Britain's best ride-on mowers were put through their paces recently in what The Telegraph heralded as "une grande mow-off" with models from John Deere, Toro, Honda and Cub Cadet scoring highly.
The Toro Time Cutter ZD 380 is the latest recycling mower from the popular garden machinery manufacturer and is powered by a 16.5 horse-powered Briggs & Stratton engine.
Praised for its manoeuvrability and its ease of use, the testers for The Telegraph particularly liked the fact that there was "fantastic visibility all around the front of the cutting deck and to the sides (making it easy to see potential hazards from the seat).
There were some small issues with the fact that there was no actual brake and the fact that both levers were needed to operate forward and backward motion.
John Deere's X304 Mulching Tractor scored highly on the durability tests with the reviewers keen to emphasise that the tractor was extremely well built. The mulching capability was also commended, though users would need to buy a separate dedicated deck to take advantage of that feature.
Cub Cadet's 1018 RD was agreed to be the easiest to drive, particularly because of the cruise control function on it and the grass box was a favourite for its "very generous capacity".
However, its relatively small cutting width at just 90cm (36in) marked the mower down somewhat and like the John Deere model, a separate deck was needed for the mulching action.
Finally, the Honda HF 2620 THE with its 20 horse power engine scored highly on the aesthetic front, with the screen controls likened to those in a car, making the user feel at home with the controls immediately.
Mulching is optional and unlike the other mowers, this tractor can reverse with the blades still in place, which is good considering it had an unusually wide turning circle.
