Lawn mower racing headlines farming festival

Lawn mower manufacturers may be keen to see how their machine performs in the upcoming lawn mower races at the Severn Group Young Farmers Day at Stepstones Farm in Wrington, Somerset on May 11th and 12th.

Headlining the festival, farmers and their friends will take to a well-worn track to see whose mower packs the most punch, followed by tractor racing and scarecrow making.

Labelled as "the biggest event on the district's young farmers' calendar", the annual county show will see a welcome return to some old favourites, including the famous Rally Dance, with live music, a disco, a bar and food

Tractor rides for children will also be on offer, according to local newspaper The Weston Mercury, with stock judging also playing an integral part to the day. A nature trail where walkers can learn all about the local habitat has also been planned.

Run with the theme "The Best of the West", organisers hope the weekend will provide a fun day out for more than just young farmers, with families, children and locals all invited to take part in the proceedings.
