Alison Patel writes: Starting this morning (August 21st), the Southport Flower Show is expected to attract 80,000 visitors and some of the most famous names in horticulture over the next four days.
Located in the town's Victoria Park, the show has a 2008 Capital of Culture theme to celebrate Liverpool's capturing of the esteemed title.
Gardeners in attendance will also be on hand to provide visitors with tips on how to grow vegetables and make their flowers flourish, and there will be a giant pink sculpture created to raise money for the Breast Cancer Campaign.
David Jackson, chief executive of the Southport Flower Show, told the Liverpool Daily Post: "It's an ideal environment for children to learn about gardening from friendly, down to earth experts, like David Bellamy."
Other celebrities at the event include ITV Loose Women presenter Coleen Nolan, who opened the show this morning.
According to the Liverpool Daily Post, promoters expect the economic benefit of the event to be nearly £3.5 million.
