Research shows house-proud Brits want to keep their gardens well-kept

Alison Patel writes: Attitudes to gardens have changed significantly over the last 75 years and people are now more likely to be concerned about keeping their outside space clean and tidy.
That is according to 'Over The Garden Fence', a report commissioned by woodcare experts Cuprinol which, according to the Daily Mail, shows a nation's "obsession with well-manicured lawns".
The report also found that parents are now more reluctant to let their children play in their gardens, a possible consequence of this desire to keep gardens looking immaculate.
Maren Dumbuya, Cuprinol brand manager, explained the phenomenon: "The research shows that Brits are more likely to use the garden as an extension of the home and feel the need to keep it clean and tidy rather than cluttered up with kids toys."
Expensive furniture and hot tubs are now common place in British gardens, the report revealed, and 20 per cent of those questioned had a water feature compared to just one per cent 75 years ago.
