A show garden that is going to help alleviate crop shortages in Africa

Alison Patel writes: A charity has gathered its staff together to build a garden for the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show that aims to help farmers in Africa, the Independent has reported.
The "Send a Cow" garden, which has been designed by a supporter of the charity, has been put together to highlight the plight of African farmers who need alternatives to chemicals and pesticides to farm successfully.
Founded in 1988 by a group of farmers from the West Country, the plan was originally to help Ugandan farmers by giving them animals thereby creating "a sustainable source of manure".
Solutions that the farmers will be showcasing at the show include the "bag garden" which, according to Emma Townshend of the Independent would work "equally well on a tiny British patio or balcony" as it would in Africa.
This simple idea consists solely of a tall hessian sack of soil that is deep enough o grow potatoes in and can accommodate things growing up the sides as well.
A keyhole garden, meanwhile, has a compost heap that is built into a circular raised bed and the residual liquid goes straight onto the veggies - which is a great fertiliser.
