Water gardens at Hampton Court Palace Flower Show
Mowdirect news > Gardening News
Monday, July 07 2008 11:13:57 by Alison Patel
Alison Patel writes: As Hampton Court opens its gates for this year's flower show, gardeners are being advised to look out for the Thai floating market.
The Telegraph's Joanna Fortnam has given a guide to the show's water gardens at this year's event which opens on July 8th.
Unlike previous years which have seen between nine and ten water gardens at the show, this year there are only two gardens in the water category.
The De Yong's "Romantic Charm" garden for the Dorset Water Lily Company and the World of Water's design will be extolling the virtues of H2O.
Peter Walsh of World of Water, explained that he thinks water has become unfashionable: "These things move in waves. Water was very popular when Charlie Dimmock was on television and the fashion was for small, self-contained water features. These days we're seeing less of the stainless steel and bubble features."
Mr Walsh will be bringing a new angle to water features with his jumping jets that have been scaled down for use in a garden.
Another garden that Joanna Fortnam suggests is worth checking out is the Helios Gardens by Mair Ellis whose "Plant Spa" design uses hydroponic growing techniques.
