Chelsea gold medalists for hire
Mowdirect news > Gardening News
Tuesday, July 01 2008 17:49:36 by Alison Patel
Alison Patel writes: Those gardeners that got the chance to visit the Chelsea Flower show no doubt enjoyed walking around the displays and marveling at the innovative designs of the medal winners.
Now, for those that can afford their services, Chelsea gold medalists are for hire, the Times has reported.
The designers have varying skills, some specialising in sculpture, others concentrating on architecture, but what they all have in common is "proven design skills".
Annie Gatti of the Times said "They also have the highest standards when it comes to sourcing plants, hard-landscaping materials, sculpture, furniture, craftsmen, specialist suppliers and the all-important contractors who build the gardens".
With prices ranging from £450 for an initial half-day consultation up to £40,000 for an Andy Sturgeon design, these services are not for the credit-conscious gardener.
Gardeners can choose from Stuart-Smith, winner of no fewer than seven Chelsea gold medals, for breathtaking and "masterly" planting schemes.
Andy Sturgeon won a gold medal for his Mary Quant inspired sculptural wall and is equally at home producing "spaces for families" as he is designing "sophisticated rooftops".
Other designers for hire include Jinny Blom, Christopher Bradley-Hole, Arabella LennoxBoyd, Dan Pearson, George Carter, Luciano Giubbilei, Todd Longstaffe-Gowan and Christopher Masson.
