Planting herbs
Mowdirect news > Gardening News
Monday, June 30 2008 18:45:36 by Alison Patel
Alison Patel writes: Gardeners looking to grow herbs in the summer should make sure they choose fertile soil that is well-drained.
That is the advice from Pink News, which suggests that those who want to speed up the process can buy young plants from a nursery.
Seeds can be sown both indoors and out but gardeners are advised not to plant the seeds too deeply and just barely cover them with moist soil.
Those that choose to plant their herbs outside in a flowerbed should choose a sunny spot that is protected from the wind.
Rosemary, chives and parsley can all be planted between flowers for those gardeners that have minimal space as can sages and thyme which make good edging plants.
Herb lovers should be careful not to pick the plants before they are fully grown to ensure that they continue to grow once the leaves have been harvested.
iVillage.co.uk recommend that rosemary, thyme, sage, tarragon and bay grow well from plants whilst rocker, coriander, parsley and chives grow particularly well from seed.
