Hampton Court 'hearing' garden
Mowdirect news > Gardening News
Tuesday, June 24 2008 18:53:07 by Arash Hekmat
Arash Hekmat writes: Hampton Court Palace Flower Show will be host to the first exhibition created to celebrate the sounds found in a garden.
Designed by Selina Botham, "The Widex Hearing Garden - celebrating sound", is sponsored by a Danish hearing aid manufacturer and features an interactive "Listening Wall".
Visitors to the show can listen to garden sounds at the wall - which has been designed to help them appreciate their hearing ability.
Selina Botham, of Designs for All Seasons, explained the purpose of the garden: "Being in a garden, immersed in a full sensory experience is one of the great pleasures of life. I hope my design will help people to appreciate and celebrate those every day sounds that are so important in our enjoyment of the world around us."
The design will be an urban courtyard garden and is intended to provide visitors with an "al-fresco retreat in which the rhythms of the garden can be enjoyed".
The Hampton Court Palace Flower Show runs from July 8th to July 13th 2008. It has been held at the Hampton Court Palace since 1989.
Last year there were in excess of 160,000 visitors to the show.
