Gardeners asked to look out for Le Bee
Mowdirect news > Gardening News
Monday, June 23 2008 18:51:08 by Alison Patel
Alison Patel writes: Gardeners are being asked to help a conservation trust record sightings of the nation's newest bumblebee that has flown to these shores from France.
The Bumblebee Conservation Trust is hoping to encourage gardeners to take part in a survey to help monitor the Tree Bumblebee or Le Bee as it is known for short.
National Insect Week is taking place this week and Hemel online has reported that Wyevale Garden Centre in Tring wants to encourage their customers to take part in the survey.
John Wells, centre manager at the garden centre, said: "Bumblebees are beautiful creatures. They are also important pollinators of flowers and crops so are essential for gardening.
"We're offering visitors to the garden centre during National Insect Week, which runs until Sunday, June 29th, the opportunity to take home free survey forms to help monitor any Tree Bees they see."
Those interested in helping to spot Le Bee should note their distinctive markings. They have a brown colouring along the central body section, a black abdomen and a white tail.
