School receives donation for garden to achieve 'eco' status

Alison Patel writes: A school in Scotland has been given a donation to help it achieve "eco" status, UKTV Gardens has reported.
Castlefield Primary School in East Kilbride is hoping that wheelbarrows, spades, forks, hand trowels and gardening gloves donated by local credit union, Scotwest, will allow the school to become eco-certified.
Shenagh Craig, school deputy head teacher, said: "The gardening equipment will be of great use to the school in order to complete our garden which we hope will become an ideal learning platform in order to expand their knowledge about green issues, as well as providing a great deal of enjoyment for staff and pupils alike."
Ms Craig said that she was "very grateful" to Scotwest for what she called "a very generous donation".
A number of school gardens have recently been honoured with the Action for Nature wildlife awards for their part in preserving animal and plant life.
St Alphonsus RC School won a Gold Standard award and Seymour Park School was awarded with a Silver Standard for their wildlife-preserving garden.
