Keep lawns green to tempt buyers
Mowdirect news > Gardening News
Friday, June 13 2008 19:06:52 by Alison Patel
Alison Patel writes: Homeowners looking to get the most value from their property need to make sure they look after their lawns.
That is the advice from property developer, Gleeson Homes, who suggest that lawns are "the most significant part of the garden" and make the biggest impression on potential buyers.
Julie Rayner, sales director of Gleeson Homes, explained: "The garden is a huge selling point of a house, and should be treated with regard when a seller wants to attract the attention of a buyer.
Ms Rayner emphasised the importance of keeping a lawn healthy and green in the summer when droughts can brown the turf.
Suggestions to keep a lawn in top shape include removing weeds and scarifying it in autumn. They also suggest raising the height of the lawnmower which can reduce drought stress.
The Royal Horticultural Society recommends long-term planting of drought tolerant shrubs, trees and hedges that require minimum effort with maximum affect.
Other tips to attract buyers to your home include planting fruit trees and creating a focal point of interest.
