Gardeners encouraged to 'sow and save'
Mowdirect news > Gardening News

Homeowners are being encouraged to get out into their gardens and grow their own vegetables as part of Recycle Week.
National Savings & Investments (NS&I) urged gardeners to increase their savings further by reusing old containers and pots from around their homes, instead of buying special seeding pots and growing trays.
The bank suggested using old plastic pots, such as milk cartons to grow seeds and old boots, shoes, and basins as plant pots. It also recommended gardeners try making their own compost using organic household waste.
John Prout, sales and retention director at NS&I, said: "Growing your own vegetables is a great way to save money and the environment, and Recycle Week presents the perfect opportunity to combine it with another great money-saving activity.
"NS&I has been helping the nation save for over 100 years, and we hope these tips will inspire people to think about saving money as well as the environment."
Meanwhile, the team behind an inner-city allotment in Manchester has started a campaign to encourage children to use the seven-acre site to grow vegetables, The Manchester Evening News reports.
