Gold award for Cancer Research UK garden

Laura Topp writes: Cancer Research UK has been awarded a gold medal for its garden at the 2008 Chelsea Flower Show.
The beautiful garden was designed by three-time gold medal winner Andy Sturgeon, and was inspired by the progress that the charity has made in combating cancer over the last year.
It made up of four rectangular pools, each of which are surrounded by contemporary woodland. Focusing on the idea of progress, a series of computer generated ripples span across the pools in different formations, in front of a large sculpture made of aluminium rings.
Jools Tait, a spokesperson for Cancer Research UK, said: "We're absolutely thrilled with the garden and delighted that it's been awarded a gold medal. Andy has once again designed a fantastic garden for Cancer Research UK."
"The Chelsea Flower Show provides us with an excellent platform to highlight the progress the charity has made towards beating cancer," the head of special events added.
This year, climate change was another theme that was on the mind of many of the gardeners submitting designs to the show, one garden the Cadogan Garden looking at the effects warmer weather in the UK could have on a London courtyard.
