Beautiful garden can enhance property
Mowdirect news > Gardening News
Thursday, May 22 2008 19:18:53 by Arash Hekmat
Arash Hekmat writes: Gardeners looking to increase the value of their homes could add a great deal by creating a pleasant outdoor space and properly maintaining it, it has been claimed.
Lucy Hall, deputy editor of BBC Gardeners' World magazine said that gardens can add value to homes in a number of ways, noting that front gardens are becoming increasingly popular.
"Gardens are incredibly valuable for creating the right impression to viewers, from the minute they walk through the gate," she said.
"While off-road parking is hugely desirable, a front garden thats predominately green immediately creates a sense of calm, even in the midst of the city."
Ms Hall urged gardeners to lay down a generous area of pavement or decking in their back garden for outdoor dining, adding that a timber shed for storing garden equipment can add further value.
A recent report in the Guardian newspaper indicated that Brits now spend £4 billion every year on flowers, plants, garden tools and accessories, a figure that is not expected to decline this year, despite the credit crunch.
