Emily Jenkins writes: Making sure that your lawn stays in tip-top condition requires a "simple, low-cost maintenance regime" that involves mowing, feeding and weeding.
That is according to Angela Lambert of QLawns, a UK-based lawn turf company, who has asserted that mowing a lawn regularly will help to ensure it looks its best, particularly during the warmer months.
Ms Lambert recommended that an ideal height for a lawn in a family garden is 2.5 centimetres and noted that if grass is a bit longer in the summer, when it is likely that there will be less rain, it is stands a better chance of survival.
Speaking to gardenandgreen.co.uk, she explained: "Regular mowing is vital it helps to keeps the lawns texture nice and thick and velvety. Keep the mower blades really sharp and dont cut the lawn too short 2.5 centimetres is a good height for a family lawn. As summer approaches, lift the mower blades up a bit longer grass keeps its colour better in a drought."
Ms Lambert went on to say that mowing a lawn is not only good for the grass, but good for the person doing the mowing as well. She asserted that while being a good source of exercise, it can also be very therapeutic.
"A lush green lawn is an invitation to come outside and enjoy the garden. It neednt be hard to achieve personally, I find a spot of lawn mowing to be really relaxing. It burns off calories, releases endorphins, and the noise from the mower means that I cant hear my husband and kids talking at me. Bliss!"
