Planning system criticised after firm seeks permission to build in residential g

Thursday, May 15 2008 18:40:49 by Paul Jones

Gardening News Paul Jones writes: The UK's planning system has come under fire after a developer applied to build new homes in the residential garden of an elderly couple.

Hunt Habitats did not need the permission of all the landowners living between Southwell Road West and Clifton Road in Mansfield before it made an application to build ten houses in their back gardens.

One couple in particular were very upset when they learned of Hunt Habitats' plans and as such district councillor Nick Bennett has criticised the system, Chad.co.uk reports.

Mr Bennet has claimed that the elderly couple have become very distressed by the proposed plans for their garden.

He told the local portal: "I think it is disgraceful that you can apply for planning permission on somebody else's land," he said. "These are older people and it has frightened them to death."

Mr Bennet went onto say that if the plans are approved, they will destroy wildlife habitats.
