Prize offered for artistic garden

Friday, May 09 2008 12:34:36 by Leigh Jackson

Gardening News Leigh Jackson writes: Preston's popular garden of the year competition is poised to begin with a new trophy up for grabs for the best amateur horticulturalist.

Local artist Janet Dyer, who runs an art club in the town, has donated a piece of artwork to Dunscar Garden Centre to be used as the trophy for this year's victor, the Lancashire Evening Post reports.

Shaun Lewis, manager of the garden centre, revealed his hope that this year's entries would match the impressive showing of 2007.

He told the publication: "Last year we had a number of excellent entries from both the Preston and Southport areas and we are hoping to get plenty more this year."

The winner will also be presented with £150 of garden centre vouchers.

Meanwhile, amateur gardeners have had the chance to win £50 worth of garden centre vouchers this week by composting.
