Company helps revamp hospice garden

Lawn Mowers Leigh Jackson writes: Staff from property developer Land Securities downed tools for a day last week to help revamp the garden of a local hospice.

The Lions Hospice in Northfleet welcomed 20 employees of the development company arming them with lawnmowers, forks and spades to take part in the makeover, the News Shopper reports.

Joy Blunderfield, the community fundraiser for the hospice, thanked the firm for its help in readying the gardens for their warm weather activities.

"With fundraising events fast approaching it's vital we ensure our grounds are in prime condition and the Land Securities team has been a huge help to us," she said.

Meanwhile, according to the Manchester Evening News, young regional volunteers have been helping to regenerate the gardens of the Gorston Monastery.

The scheme is part of wider £6 million pound plans to restore the monastery, which has fallen into disrepair since it was vacated by its resident Franciscan monks in 1989.
