Tony Domingo writes: The paving in the gardens of Gorton Monastery in Manchester have been fully restored, thanks to a group of local volunteers.
The five-day garden paving project, which is part of wider £6 million scheme to restore the Grade II listed building, involved local students, apprentice masons and young offenders, the Manchester Evening News reports.
Elaine Griffiths, the Gorton Monastery Trust project director, revealed that the initial phase of the work went to plan and thanked the youths for their hard work.
"The work is amazing and the garden has been transformed in the past week," she said. "We are really thrilled by all the support, which helps us to deliver this project in an affordable way and to such a high standard of professionalism."
Ms Griffiths added: "We just can't thank the lads enough. Now the paving is in place, we need to complete the gardens by planting the beds and hope to have the work done this summer. It will be wonderful to see the garden returned to its former glory."
The monastery was built in 1863 and was home to Franciscan monks, who vacated in 1989.
