Volunteers conduct garden clean up
Mowdirect news > Gardening News
Thursday, April 17 2008 15:55:37 by Leigh Jackson
Leigh Jackson writes: A number of volunteers from a local social club have helped regenerate a children's garden in Scarborough.
The garden of Wheatcroft Nursery was spruced up by the generous members Rotaract club for 18-to-30 year olds in their spare time, the Scarborough Evening News reports.
Jane Gill, a playgroup leader at the nursery, thanked the club for its help and revealed that the children were already making the most of their new outdoor space.
"The garden was in urgent need of a good tidy-up before we could allow the children to go out and start planting their own plants," she told the publication.
"It was really lovely of Rotaract to offer their help, and give up their free time on a weekend.
"Their work was very much appreciated and the children have already started to enjoy being out in the garden," Ms Gill added.
Meanwhile, the Thames Barrier Learning Centre's new wildlife garden will officially be opened today with a bug hunt with naturalist Nick Baker.
