Garden receives lottery boost

Leigh Jackson writes: The gardens of the Bishop's Palace have been awarded more than £1 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) as part of its redevelopment scheme.
The outdoor space is undergoing a £4 million restoration project which will culminate in part of the garden being opened to the public, the BBC reports.
Bishop of Bath and Wells, Rt Revd Peter Price, revealed that the revamp of the gardens would be of massive benefit to the community.
"This is an exciting time for the palace," he told the broadcaster.
"The palace has always played a central role in the community, not only of Wells but of the whole diocese and this project will ensure it continues," he added.
Part of the plans include converting an underground section of the palace into an exhibition room for visitors.
Work will begin on the scheme in 2009 if it is granted full approval.
