Entrants prepare for Hampton Court Palace Flower Show contest

Leigh Jackson writes: The entrants for this year's Court Palace Flower Show are raring to go with their lawnmowers and hedgetrimmers at the ready.

One of the most eagerly anticipated sections is the small gardens prize, with ten hopefuls set to fight it out at the show this summer.

An early favourite could be Bristol's Mark Walker who is set to enter his popular design for the city's Hospice South West site, the Evening Post reports.

Commenting on his entry, entitled Distraction - A Hospice Garden, Mr Walker told the publication: "The idea came from me noticing visitors had nowhere to sit, to be alone or be with family and friends. I wanted this design to help distract their minds."

"The garden incorporates a curved wall which enables the person to sit in private if they want. The focal point is a water feature which will reflect the calming colours I am using," he added.

As part of the small garden prize entrants will be expected to reflect their designs on an outdoor space measuring five metres by five metres.
