Saltash unveils sub-tropical garden
Mowdirect news > Gardening News
Friday, April 11 2008 09:38:45 by Tony Domingo
Tony Domingo writes: Saltash's town council and its resident's association have completed work on a local sub-tropical garden.
With the help of local contractors and volunteers, a disused piece of land underneath the Royal Albert Bridge has been transformed into what has been called the 'Hanging Gardens of Saltash', the BBC reports.
The garden features an array of plants usually associated with sunnier climes such as bananas and palms.
Joe Ellison, a member of the Saltash Waterside Residents' Association, revealed that the new space would be an attractive addition for both locals and guests to the region.
"It's just something entirely different for Saltash and upgrades the waterfront for both residents and visitors," he told the broadcaster.
"We are transforming the waterside bit by bit and making it a coherent whole," Mr Ellison added.
The garden was paid for with contributions form the council, the residents association and a £9,800 grant from Awards for All.
