New garden curbs anti-social behaviour
Mowdirect news > Gardening News
Thursday, April 03 2008 16:08:34 by Jackie Yeadon
Jackie Yeadon writes: Residents in sheltered accommodation whose lives were affected by anti-social behaviour have celebrated the transformation of their environment and their lives.
The garden at Robinson House in Horden, Easington, has been transformed into a place of peace and relaxation thanks to donations from the local community.
Councillor William Hill put up the sum of £2,000, which he had received as an award for his community work.
In addition, Horden in Bloom and Spalding Bulbs contributed flowers, plants and bulbs worth thousands, while Focus DIY donated garden furniture and the Streetsafe team installed lighting.
Mr Hill said the 47 residents had been suffering at the hands of drunken, drugged-up and abusive youths who were congregating in the garden.
Warden Jackie Barkle told the Northern Echo: "Since the fence went up, the residents have a much better quality of life.
Police are investigating resident's complaints following the installation of a Mosquito device in a Spalding garden.
The gadget, which emits a noise at a frequency only heard by young people, was installed by Colin Martin after a spate of anti-social behaviour.
