Volunteers to turn disused land into community garden
Mowdirect news > Gardening News
Wednesday, March 05 2008 15:51:06 by Emily Jenkins
Emily Jenkins writes: A number of local volunteers are helping to transform a disused plot of land in Halifax into a beautiful community garden.
A grassy patch of land on New Bond Street is being seized by the Hopwood Lane Neighbourhood Association in order to turn it into a space for the whole region to enjoy, the Halifax Courier reports.
Nazeer Ahmed, a member of the association, claimed that the space would become an ideal spot for youths to spend their free time.
"We want this to be a place where people can get together and a safe place for children to play," he told the publication.
Calderdale Council are also taking an active role in the new garden and David Kirton, regeneration and development spokesman, added: "This regeneration project is an excellent example of collaborative working between the council and local community."
Meanwhile, young volunteers from Dorset have been lending a hand to help revitalise a local garden.
According to the Dorset Echo, members of the Dorset v group have been helping to clean-up Acland Court, a regional disused plot of land.
