Local children lend hand to garden scheme

Leigh Jackson writes: Youthful volunteers from Dorset are putting their weight behind a scheme to revitalise a local garden.

The helpers from the Dorset v group, part of a nationwide scheme designed to get more youths involved in volunteer work, have been donning bruschcutters, lawnmowers and hedgeclippers in their efforts to clean-up the outdoor space of Acland Court, the Dorset Echo reveals.

Julia Gosling, a member of the Dorset Youth Association, the organisation behind the Dorset v group, revealed that the garden would be both more attractive and easier to look after after the revamp.

She told the publication: "The garden is overgrown, so we are clearing that away and then will be planting low-maintenance plants and laying down wood chips to make it easier for Acland Court residents to maintain the garden in the future.

"Everyone is really eager to get things done and it should look fantastic once we have finished."
