Botanic garden makes the cut
Mowdirect news > Gardening News
Thursday, February 21 2008 14:29:22 by Emily Jenkins
Emily Jenkins writes: Dundee University's Botanic garden will not be shut down, despite the institution making a range of savings cuts.
The university will experience budgetary concerns over the next two financial years, leaving it needing to save around £3 million, the Dundee Evening Telegraph and Post reports.
But, despite a number of cuts due to be made by the establishment, the garden is set to survive, at least for the foreseeable future.
It is hoped that a number of changes to the operation of the garden will help it to reduce its estimated £200,000 running costs.
Garden officials have already tried to implement a range of measures to reduce the operating cost to around £75,000, including energy efficiency programs and handing the running of the education programme to Dundee College.
Meanwhile, a Yorkshire resident has had his plans to build a wind turbine in his garden rejected by the Harrogate Borough Council.
The council claimed that Mr Paley's plans were not well suited to the area due to the size and proposed position of the turbine.
