Residents enjoy new community garden

Leigh Jackson writes: Residents of Halifax picked up their forks and spades to help create a community garden for their local neighbourhood.
A number of locals lent a welcome hand to the Hopwood Land Neighbourhood Association who were creating the outdoor space to bring some beauty to the community, Halifax Today reports.
With the help of Southdale Homes, who donated a series of plants, the site on New Bond Street has been turned into a lush garden with a number of low maintenance evergreen trees.
And the garden is expected to grow in the future with the addition of a number of seats and a children's play area.
Meanwhile, the Cornish Rose Company has unveiled plans for a brand new garden set to add colour and wildlife to the region.
The firm will plant a number of scented blooms to create a rose garden in the area, which will be opened in March 2008.
