Council roll out recycling plans

Leigh Jackson writes: A garden waste collection scheme based within Nottinghamshire is set to be extended after residents urged the council to allow it to continue.
Locals in Ashfield were given a trial run of a programme which saw the district council remove garden waste and then turn it into compost.
And the trial of the scheme, which aimed to increase the region's recycling rate to 40 per cent, was so successful that the locals have urged to council to re-instate the collection on a permanent basis.
Yielding to popular demand the authorities have agreed to bring the scheme back for around 26,000 households from March 2008.
Meanwhile, the Shropshire Wildlife Trust (SWT) has unveiled a campaign to raise money to buy around 200 ancient holly trees.
The SWT hope that they can purchase the four hundred year old growths, enabling them to be preserved for future generations.
