Charity garden opens
Mowdirect news > Gardening News
Wednesday, November 21 2007 17:24:07 by Leigh Jackson
Leigh Jackson writes: A charity garden, dedicated to a young cancer patient, has finally opened after an appeal raised more than £10,000 in her honour.
The eco-space, based at Mirfield library in Mirfield, has been reworked and re-opened as the Garden of Eden, in honour of 11-year-old Eden Shaw, the Dewsbury Reporter reveals.
The Reporter was instrumental in the fundraising efforts by urging readers to contribute and helping the project by collecting £11,000 for the outdoor space.
Commenting on the project, councillor Martyn Bolt told the publication: "The completed scheme, which has been funded through the council's small towns initiative, will provide the centre of Mirfield with an attractive amenity area laid out with new seating, paths and lawns together within an enclosure of wall and decorative fencing.
He added: "It will certainly brighten up the area and provide a pleasant focal point for the town centre for local people to enjoy and benefit from."
