Gardeners celebrate centenary with 1,000 mile trek

Leigh Jackson writes: Two cyclists completed a 1,000 cycle in honour of the 100th birthday of the Hidcote Manor Garden.
The Gloucestershire duo, Glyn Jones and Len Potter, work at the garden and their trek helped raise funds for its restoration, the Western Daily Press reports.
Commenting on their epic journey, which began at the Serre de la Madone the manor's French sister garden, Mr Jones told the publication: "It's been 16 days in the saddle but I feel fantastic.
"We got up early, had a huge bowl of porridge and got on the road.
"The longest day we managed was 132 kilometres but the scenery was just stunning - really mind-blowing beauty."
And Mr Potter added: "It was incredibly demanding but absolutely fantastic.
"I prepared for it physically and I was confident that I could do it but needed dogged determination to get back in the saddle every day but it was a real thrill.
"We met a lot of great people along the way and it was just a fantastic experience to be part of."
The garden is hoping to raise £1.6 million for the restoration and has now reached the £500,000 mark.
