Pym wins Brit mower championships

Leigh Jackson writes: John Pym and his 1960 Allen Golf Course mower took the plaudits at the 2007 Lawnmower Racing World Championships at Roundham.
The Ilminster green-fingered racer showed lightning speed to dominate the fifth event of its kind and win both the championship and the drag strip title, This Is the West Country reports.
A large crowd was in attendance to see the event, organised by firm B & Paul Powers, and Pym did not disappoint his fans, destroying the field in qualifying to take poll position and the dominating the feature race from green light to chequered flag.
And, not to be outdone, the women's championship was sealed in style by Annie Hallet on board a Mow Zicca.
The event, which celebrates the marvel of the mowers, also handed an award to Wellington's Grant Rowland – for having the best presented lawn racer.
Recently, Delaware County Fairground hosted the American national lawnmower championships, which had speed classifications ranging from the 10 mph class to the 60 mph elite group.
