Garden tended in honour of beloved wife

Wednesday, September 26 2007 10:08:19 by Leigh Jackson

Gardening News Leigh Jackson writes: A widowed husband from South Shields is tending to his wife's beloved garden in her memory.

Lesley Wills lost his wife earlier this year and has decided that the best way to keep her memory alive was to continue her sterling green-fingered efforts, the Shields Gazette reports.

The 69-year-old told the publication: "Ever since we moved in, we both spent lots of time in the garden. She was always the green-fingered one, and kept things looking really nice.

"She had a really good eye for colour and beautiful plants, and since I've retired I've really enjoyed spending time out there, admiring her efforts."

He added: "When she died I didn't want all of her hard work to go to waste, so I've started to get my hands dirty with some weeding and tending to the plants, so hopefully I can keep it looking as nice as she had it."
