New Garden for Grange
Mowdirect news > Gardening News
Tuesday, September 25 2007 10:02:04 by Leigh Jackson
Leigh Jackson writes: The Grange Promenade has proudly unveiled a new planted garden.
The outdoor space was created entirely by the members of the Civic Society Promenade Gardens Group and was backed by train giants First TransPennine Express and local business, the North-West Evening Mail reports.
Commenting on the garden, which members had been working on since the spring, Margaret Robinson, head of the society, told the publication: "This is the largest garden on the promenade, measuring 120ft in length, and it is the first garden you see when joining the promenade via the railway station underpass."
She added: "It was planted by members of the Civic Society Promenade Gardens Group in April this year and contains a variety of plants which provide colour and interest throughout the seasons.
"Grange is special in having its own 'micro-climate' which allows us to grow plants not usually found adjacent to the coast."
Local horticulturalist Christopher Holliday, of Cutting Edge Garden Design, drew up the plans for the garden and oversaw its completion.
