Sensory gardens grow in popularity
Mowdirect news > Gardening News
Friday, September 21 2007 09:16:11 by Leigh Jackson
Leigh Jackson writes: Britons across the country are helping disabled residents in the community by introducing them to sensory gardens.
Recently, a number of outdoor spaces, aimed at inflaming the senses of touch, smell, sight and sound have been opened to enrich the lives of the less fortunate.
The latest of which was in Radlett, where care home residents were delighted at the unveiling of their new area which featured raised, wheelchair access flowerbeds and an array of sweet smelling plants such as lavender and honeysuckle, the Borehamwood and Elstree Times reports.
Pleased at the effect the space would have the residents, Paul Draper, the care home's area manager, told the publication: "We are really pleased with the finished garden. It will enhance the life of the residents, particularly those with dementia or sensory impairment, and enable all of them to get outside in a safe, enjoyable environment."
In the last few weeks similar projects have been unveiled in both Kent and Bristol.
